The new Musical Director of Henley Choral Society, Richard Harker is inviting singers to join us when we start back in rehearsal at 7.30pm on Monday April 25th at d:two, Henley.
Chair of Henley Choral Society Tim Wilson explains: ‘We are thrilled to welcome Richard as our new Musical Director. Richard was the top choice in the audition process which involved all members of our 100-strong non-auditioned choir. Richard has already put forward an exciting programme for the Summer concert in Henley on Saturday 18th June, so now is a great time for people to come back to the joy of singing in a large chorus. ‘
Richard Harker is musical director of The Hythe Singers, Hampton Choral Society, and Parenthesis. He is singing lead at Beechview Academy, High Wycombe. Richard graduated with an MA in Choral Conducting from the Royal Academy of Music, receiving the Thomas Armstrong Prize. He read music at, and was organ scholar of Fitzwilliam College, Cambridge, where he received the Swinburne Prize. When not making music, he is usually found on his allotment, or walking his dog, Louis.
Richard Harker explains: ‘I am delighted to be joining the choir as Musical Director from April and am looking forward to some exciting, challenging, and entertaining concerts over the next seasons. I am looking forward to strengthening musical ties between the adult choir and Henley Youth Choir and continuing to perform at a high level, keeping Henley Choral Society as the foremost large choir in the area. It would be great to have new singers join us now as we embark on this exciting journey!’
Tim Wilson reiterates: ‘There is no audition for membership. One of our aims is to show just how good a non-auditioned choir can be. We particularly welcome additions to the Tenor and Bass sections. All you need is a love of singing. An ability to read music is useful and many of our members sang in choirs at school or college and want to re-kindle their love of singing. Rehearsals take place at 7.30pm on Monday, currently at d:two, 55-57 Market Place, near the centre of Henley and you can be sure of a warm welcome.’
